Bridesmaids Gifts That Do More :: Part 1

Last month I had the coolest opportunity. I got to partner with TOMS and my local Optometrist, Dr Gore O.D. in Pasadena, CA. I offered my services in helping them plan a huge Anniversary event where they showcase their most popular optical brands with crazy sales, food, face painting, music, Photo Booth, etc. So fun, right? Well, we decided to take that one step further and highlight one of their newest brands, TOMS Eyewear. TOMS is not new. In fact, I’m sure most of you at one time or another stood in a line for 2 hours for an annual factory sale for TOMS shoes (you know who you are!) TOMS has this awesome one-for-one model where every pair of shoes purchased, another is donated to a child in need. And now, they have a similar model for eyesight. YES. I said eyesight. Every time TOMS eyewear is purchased, they give sight through a 15 min surgery for a child who cannot see. NOT only that, but they give free eye exams as well as glasses to those in need. Something so simple, yet so life changing to a young child. Now, I have terrible vision. I’ve been wearing glasses since 6th grade. I seriously don’t know how I could function without gaining my eyesight. I couldn’t own my business… I for sure couldn’t blog!

Wearing Glasses on Your Wedding Day

Rowley7

It’s not something you usually see gracing the pages on all the popular wedding blogs. A bride walking down the aisle rocking her specs. But so many people wearing their glasses on a day to day basis. religiously, even. For some, their glasses are their style trademark. So why then, do we NEVER see glasses on a wedding day? I believe that our society’s and communities have shaped a “bridal look” that is fresh faced and spectacle free =) But then we preach about making your day YOU and opting with hair and makeup vendors that don’t try and make you look different, but comfortable and confident in your own skin. Kinda a contradiction if you ask me. All of this occurred to me when I stumbled across Rowley Eyewear. Some of their looks just screamed bridal to me.. and then it dawned on me – why don’t I EVER see brides in killer frames like these? Probably because NO ONE is doing it! Lightbulb!

Okay Pantone…

… you win. The minute Pantone release the color for this wedding season, I was a hater. I admit it. I’ve always said I’m not a fan of purple while smiling awkwardly haha. But I will be the first to admit when I’m wrong. And believe it or not – my heart is slowly turning to that famous (this year) color ;-) In fact, I’m even designing a couple of fabulously purple wedding soiree’s this year! And, get it – I’m loving it! Who knew, right?!

In fact, the other day, I stumbled across this stunning mood board by One Fab Day I just oohed and aahed over each image I almost forgot that “I don’t like purple” haha so I thought I would share it with all you lovelies! Now, I’m not saying throw a purple evening garden wedding under the stars because that’s what Pantone says to do – NO! But if you’ve always had a soft spot for the shade in your heart then this is your lucky year with so much inspiration and resources out there for you. But as I always say – make your wedding YOU. Not what Pinterest says a wedding should be =)  (Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox now) On to the pretty!

2014 Wedding Color Palettes

Can you believe it’s already February?! Where did January go, seriously? I guess as I get older I’ll start saying that about everything – soon I’ll be saying… where did my 20’s even go? haha. Well, today as I’m prepping for several client meetings, deadlines for spring weddings, and meeting with potential new brides, I’m dreaming up what my favorite weddings will look like in the spring and summer of this year.

There is always a couple colors each year that I feel like I’m constantly working with for clients. Last year was blush pink. Blush everything. And let me tell you – there are not that many spot-on blush linens out there! I  had my work cut out for me =) So this year, these are the colors that I see being huge trends whether it be the whole focal point – or subtle details, I’m betting I’ll be working with these colors all year long… and I’m liking what I see!

Taupe & Powder

Okay, okay so technically there are blush tones in this palette… but it was such a hit last year, I’m sure it will stay. But instead of a gardeny blush, I’m seeing more of a sophisticated look paired with rich creams, creamy taupe and the perfect grey/brown combo.

Teal & Pewter

Mint was a huge color in the past couple years, and I love it! This year I’m thinking we’ll see more of a dusty teal paired with a rich royal teal with more hints of green. This look pairs so well with an eggshell base and a pewter metal giving it such a cool look. A great texture to pair with this is a slate linen. Can work in an outdoor or banquet setting for sure.

Purple & Mint

I’m not going to lie… when I heard that the new Pantone color was purple… I cringed. I hate purple. (Don’t hate me for saying that Joe+Kathrina!) With that being said, I’ve been scouring the web trying to find some pairing of purple that I don’t hate and I stumbled upon this rich vibrant purple paired with a minty seaglass, lavender and a soft grey and I totally love it. I would make such an elegant palette for any type of wedding this year!
